March 3 & 6 – 2018 Practice Meets
(see below for more info on these topics)
It’s hard to believe we are already to this point in the school year. Today marks the first day of official spring sports practices. This means we are just 4 weeks from High School Outdoor track meets. Athletes are expected to be at all practices and must discuss any possible conflicts with Coach Jay prior to practice. Please review the meet schedule below and make sure that any possible conflicts are discussed with the Coach Jay prior to the competition season starting in March.
Even with the cold, icy, and snowy weather, as well as the horrible cold and flu season we’ve been experiencing, we’re doing our best to prepare the athletes for competitions. Progress has been going well especially considering the amount of time we’ve missed for the all the school closings this year!
This Thursday (Feb. 15) we will take team pictures during the advisory period. Athletes need to check with the coaching staff by Wednesday to make sure they know exactly what they need to wear to be in the pictures. We will take pictures in groups by gender and by classes (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior). These pictures will be used in the WHS Spring Sports Program!
NOT just FAQ’s but THE QUESTIONS we are asked
What we need from you to participate!!
Before an athlete can participate in practice
1 – Must Turn in current Sports Physical Dated no earlier than April 15, 2017.
Athletes who have not turned in a physical this school year to participate in cheerleading, dance, marching band, fall sports, winter sports, etc. will need to get a physical ASAP so they can participate in practice. Sports Physicals can be found on the school website by clicking the button below:
2 – Must Turn in Team Fee by Feb. 19, 2018
The Track & Field Team Fee for 2018 is $150. Any athletes who do not have a uniform from the 2017 Track Season will also need to purchase a uniform for $50, bringing their total to $200. All checks should be made out to “WAC”, which stands for West Athletic Counsel.
Please contact Coach Jay if you have questions or concerns about the team/uniform fee.
It is possible that the school will go to one brand for all sports in 2019, therefore we are not requiring everyone to order new uniforms this season, only those who need a new uniform.
3 – It should go without saying, but athletes must show up dressed properly, and with proper shoes.
A main concern to the coaches this season is the health of the athletes. Two major influences are the clothing worn and the shoes worn each day by the athletes. New this year, athletes will only be able to practice if they are dressed appropriately for practices and the weather conditions that day. Also, proper shoes are a concern because of potential injuries. Please ask the coaching staff for suggestions prior to purchasing running shoes or event specific track shoes. We don’t want to sit athletes out of practice but if we feel its necessary to keep them healthy we will do just that.
Athletes and/or parents are strongly encouraged to call/text or email Coach Will Jay if they are not sure if they meet any of these requirements or have any questions about participation. (865-384-4775 or firstname.lastname@example.org)
***We Still Need Information***
